Sheldonian

There was a concert in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, tonight. The lights were on and the sounds of the orchestra flowed out into the street.

The Sheldonian, designed by Christopher Wren, was completed in 1668. In 1994 it was was described by the European Commission as "one of the architectural jewels of Oxford".

The venue is used by the University, and hired out, for key meetings, conferences, concerts and ceremonies, including graduations. Apparently Handel performed here in 1733.
