Everyday I Write The Book

My mother the High Court Judge

Actually she isn't a high court judge. She's an 89 year old, ex-communist, retired dinner lady from South London. We were having lunch in a shopping centre and she complained that all my pictures of her looked the same, so I said okay: pretend to be someone else. "Like who"? she says. "Pretend to be a high court judge handing down a stiff sentence" says I. This was the result.

Well it scared me. The last picture I took of her she was wearing a huge grin and trying to catch bubbles in Hawkins Bazaar, not easy when you are nearly ninety and in a wheelchair.

She really is one of my heroes.
