2011 has been an exceptionally good year for self-sown seedlings in the oakwoods on the edge of the Bennachie massif. Dozens of young Douglas Fir [Pseudotsuga menziesii] plants have sprung up on the forest floor beneath the massive Victorian specimens that grow in these parts.
