Chance encounter

Set off early this morning to pick Mam up from the airport. Happily the weather had improved, so we headed off after lunch for a few hours wandering round a beautiful garden just north of here. I was there with the kids at the end of April, and it was interesting to see how much it had all changed - with huge empty (in April) ponds now full of lotus plants, about to burst into bloom. Taking a photo of this huge agapanthus, I spotted a fuzzy blur off to the right and realised it was a hummingbird hawk moth, which I spent many frustrating hours chasing round our old garden trying to photograph.

Back home, Mam agreed with me that the soil in the little veg garden here was soft enough to dig over, so we did, and planted some beetroot.
