Fire Story

This morning's newspaper covered one of the Forest Fires that in our area. Of most immediate concern in the headline is the Monument Fire which is a threat to Sierra Vista. Another fire in the news is the Wallow fire which is near Springerville and Alpine near the New Mexico border. Eighteen Square Miles are burning in the Monument Fire and the Wallow Fire has charred 760 Square Miles, or 487,000 Acres.

You may wonder if there is any threat to our home and to the Tucson Area from these fires. Sierra Vista is about 85 miles from our home and Springerville is about 120 miles distant. So far there is no threat.

Good Forest Management Policy is to let the fire burn and the result will be healthier forests. The priority in firefighting is to protect homes and property in the towns and settlements. It as been said that the Walt Disney move Bambi set back Forest Management by 50 years.

Anyway we are out of harm's way for the time being.
