Whitehaven was once a great port

Friday and the rain is coming down hard. We visited Whitehaven harbour for the festival where we got soaking wet.

There were two tall ships. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Whitehaven was a busy port with iron ore and coal moving in and out and passengers leaving for America.

I thought this picture of a sailing ship worked best in black and white. I like the poor contrast which brings out the greyness of everything.
