On the move

I am now up to date!

This morning a local farmer telephoned to say one of our animals had got out and was on the track so N and I got it back in again and in due course mended the fence where it had escaped. We then noticed cattle in a nearby field were treading the surface badly around the edge in this wet weather so during the afternoon we moved them to another field. There's not much grass there yet either. In the photograph the grass looks long but unfortunately it is only a passage to other fields, several of the cattle stopped to graze it on their way. One can just see the treaded area on the right by the hedge in the field at the back. These animals were bought in as young weaned calves and we are keeping them until they are ready to be sold for slaughter. They are a Heinz 57 variety of breeds, many of them Continental and crossed with Holstein Friesian (a dairy breed). Not as handsome as yesterday's bull!

News of T and his chums on a stag week-end in Prague: this got off to a bumpy start as the pilot who was supposed to be flying them out had a puncture on the way to Bristol airport and the plane was delayed by several hours. When they eventually got to their hotel it had been overbooked so they had to find another place to stay which happened to be a brand new one (hope it wasn't too expensive!) but I guess they have forgotten about all that by now!!
