Hard Hats Required

We went to a tour of Newcastles Theatre Royal to see how the restoration work is progressing. 11 weeks into the 22 week project and the amount the has been achieved so far is staggering. The Theatre was designed by Frank Matchum in 1837 and it is being painstakingly restored to as close to the original design as possible. The cost is a whopping £4.75m. As the tour was organised in conjuncture with the Newcastle/Gateshead EAT! Festival, we were given a picnic lunch too!
Photo shows the enthusiastic head architect explaining some of the work invloved.
