Time for making hay

We are waiting and waiting for 2 clear, dry sunny days to get our food made for winter. This year we will make haylage which needs about half the drying time but it simply has been awful weather for weeks. Humid & daily thunderstorms. Again today heavy storms in Bavaria, several people injured.

In the photo, most of the fields have been cut twice & some will be cut again soon for the 3rd time. Our hay field is the brown strip in the middle of the photo. Apart from us, there is a field belonging to a part-time Eco farmer whose limousin herd I bliped a few days ago, as well as Toni aka "Bello", who has a small herd of sheep, both of whom make hay. Apart from us, most make silage or make grass pellets. A dying craft?

Perhaps we can start next week - Monday is due to be dry & warm.
