Brympton d'Evercy

This year's Dr Barnado's coffee morning was held at Brympton d'Evercy, a Tudor house near Yeovil. (Dr Barnado originally founded orphanages for homeless children in Victorian times and now the charity helps over 100,000 young people and their families in this country every year.) The property was given in 1434 by John Stourton of Preston Plucknett to his daughter who was married to John Sydenham. The front is mostly Tudor but the other side was added to in the late 17C. In the grounds there is also a Chantry House and a little church.

Every year DB and I make a point of going to this charity event because the venue is always in an old house either in Somerset or Dorset. The houses are filled with beautiful flower arrangements which are for sale, there is a plant stall and of course a cake stall, raffle tickets and coffee. Loving houses and being nosey it is great to be able to walk into most of the rooms upstairs and down, including the kitchen! This particular house is mainly used for weddings and other events. The ballroom was already prepared for a reception tomorrow.

After lunch N, T and I moved the younger cattle through the wood to the Hump Field which had been cut for silage earlier and now with the rain has grown again. Today it was easy as they all behaved themselves and none escaped into the trees - thank goodness!
