Best kept secret

As I've said before the majority of villages have their own picnic grounds.

Today Antonia and I drove over to Fuente del Maestres picnic ground which apparently will be flooded soon as they are building a reservoir further upstream. It's a large area, much larger than the norm. There's a stream that runs along the edge of it.

At the very far end through the tall trees (tall trees are unusual in Extremadura) and hidden away in the bushes is a small dam which you can see in the picture. The water runs over the dam in a little waterfalls and hence the stream.

We sat for ages in the shade on a rock enjoying the sound of the water and cicadas and the occasional twitter of birds. Very peaceful.

We used to bring our Jack Russells here when they were alive and they loved to walk in and just stand in the cool water.
