shotlandka's weebig world

Decisions decisions (bigger one today!)

A bit of background: the church I'm a part of is an independent evangelical church, and comes from a Brethren background, for people who don't know what that means, it means that historically the church leaders are not ordained, but are 'lay' people, people with other jobs outside the church (it means a lot more than that too, but that is the most pertinent issue for today's blip). A good number of years ago now we took the step of employing a youth worker, which has been great, we've been blessed with three wonderful people over the years who had done great work with our young people, and over quite a few years we have been discussing taking on a full time worker for wider church ministry. For a few years one of our elders worked part-time for the church, but after he got a full-time job elsewhere, discussion continued about employing someone full time. This person will be part of the leadership team, but with particular responsibilities and skills to meet the identified needs, and also with more time to devote to church development in its widest sense. There has been much discussion as to what to call this person, but the job title selected is pastor. This year we finally got to the stage of advertising, interviewing and so on, and a preferred candidate has been identified. He is preaching this morning and evening, and we, the church members have to vote after today to say whether we should employ him or not. We need God's wisdom and guidance. It is a big step, which will have significant consequences for all concerned, so any prayers any of you can offer up would be much appreciated!
