Smoke on the water

Kent Estuary, Cumbria

For once being woken up by Bob the Cat landing on the pillow next to my head at 5 o'clock was an advantage. It was still and bright outside, and this looked like another morning for catching the early herons on the estuary shrouded in mist.

By the time I arrived at Sandside, all of the mist over the land had already dispersed. But there was still some rolling over the water like smoke. The solitary heron at times was almost completely enveloped.

After an hour, I went home and back to bed.

Otherwise a fairly uneventful day at home. Dad will doubtless be pleased by Murray's Wimbledon progress.

ps I also meant to comment on the stillness that is found at this time before the sun starts to warm the air, even the water is dead calm. By 6 o'clock the water was rippled and all reflections were gone.
