Though a bargain, the alleged waterproof pannier-pair I picked up at the bike shop sale are just a touch too symmetrical to be able to be persuaded to be mounted without being in a position where they interfere with my pedalling. Their lower hooks were on a rail, and as the hooks were quite shallowly-angled the only position it could go was outside the rack struts, which unfortunately required the hook to be mounted a couple of centimetres past the end of the rail. By removing or moving or replacing the rail the problem would be solved but I dislike voiding warranties on new things so shall return the things to the shop and instead keep working with the donated Instographic pannier, briefly out of action last week after it decided to stop behaving and start jumping into the spokes again but now fixed again by adjusting the mounting position and swivelling the hook so that it's braced behind the chainstay rather than the rack struts. It's still slightly subject to escape so shall be further improved with the addition of a second hook and some extra stiffening on the inside of the back of the bag.
