Lines and curves #2 (Welcome - Haere mai!)

Winter and grey skies again, so trying to focus on lines and curves. This is a local reserve called Styx Reserve and has been planted with a strong emphasis on use of harakeke or flax.

This was used for all manner of items by Maori people and seems to be having a resurgence. It has to be dealt with in a certain way to be culturally sensitive and this is being encouraged.

The sculpture has lots of writing on it, explaining aspects of flax and its uses.

Haere mai and nau mai, both mean welcome, and haere mai also means come, as in come closer, come in.
