Shifting Perspectives

same time, same place next year...

Well today saw the end of British hopes at Wimbledon for another year. There is no doubt Andy Murray is a great player, the best male player Britain has had since, well, Fred Perry. He's a serious contender in every tournament he plays, and he wins his fair share of them too. However, he's fragile and doesn't seem to handle adversity as well as his main rivals. Today's moment came when he was one set up and 2-1, with Nadal serving at 15-30. AM missed a straightforward chance to win the point and the chance for two break points. He then proceeded to lose the game and then the following 7 games. He never found his way back into the match. If he could have accepted that the missed point was just a point like all the others, he may have gone on to win. As it was, it was a disaster of Titanic proportions. If he can sort that out, it may be a different story next year. If he can't, he may go down in history as a very, very good British player who failed to win a major.
