Exotic Feline Rescue Center

This is a large center in Indiana for exotic felines rescued from circuses, roadside attractions, private collections, etc... They were almost all very unhealthy and living in deplorable conditions before they came here. The center has 108 acres and houses 230 cats.

What was amazing was not only to see the cats living healthily in large enclosures with trees and grass, but also the interactions between the keepers and the cats. Since these cats have always lived in captivity, many of them are people oriented. They mostly hang out near the edges of their cages so they can see the care-takers as they pass by. Some apparently get quite upset if one walks by and does not say hi.

In this photo we have a bobcat who was raised by someone and then abandoned when he got too big and dangerous to keep as a pet; a cougar (mountain lion) who was kept half-starved in a tiny cage as a roadside attraction; a tiger who was found in an inadequate enclosure surrounded in its own feces and rotten carcasses; and a lion who was used by a child molester to attract kids into his home. The child molester is now in jail for life but the lion is still not fond of male humans.

All of these are living happy, healthy lives now.
