Anne's Daily Encounters

This hurts

The last piece of greens in our neighbourhood is offered to the building of new lofty houses. Preparations for construction started this week and it hurts to see this field ripped apart. It's the last greens in the area and the last remnant of old farmland. The never ending extention of the cities here in Holland gave me the impresson that the greens we have for a walk and bike ride are not bigger than a postal stamp. Now theze postal stamp sized pieces of green are even eaten away by the urge of building houses with garden for those who can afford that. With the deteriorating economic crisis I wonder if there are folks who can afford the purchase of what will be built here. Real estate is like a dead market now. Businesses are closed and buildings, offices, shopping malls factories, name it, are emptied out and are on offer for rent or sale. Many buildingplans have been put on hold, but this one goes ahead and to see what it eats away is like a big loss for me and many others here in the neighbourhood. Protest did not help. So actually a sad blip as this field is soon no more there!
