Wanna buy a bridge?

Since the late 1950's this swing bridge was the only land-based way to get to the barrier island. Last October, a new, high-rise bridge was opened and progress was served. Some people had ideas on what to do with the old swing bridge and started a campaign to save it for historical purposes.

Without going into the many details, the construction company who built the new bridge agreed to dismantle the swing bridge and place it on property donated by a local landowner. A committee has been formed of those interested in saving and placing the bridge in an appropriate place for viewing by all.

The debate continues as to who pays (taxpayers or private donors) for the final resting place and who will maintain and support its next life.
