Meanwhile, Back At The Station

The official opening of the final section of the line to Rangiora took place on 5 November 1872, after a last-minute rush to have the goods shed, waiting rooms, and platform finished before Christchurch show day and race week. The original facilities were improved in 1902 and the station was rebuilt along the north line in 1909. Following its closure, the main buildings lay derelict for some years before being extensively renovated and transformed into Café De La Gare. The former stationmaster's ticket office is now a well-stocked bar. Santé!
