Day 1, F1

The time has come - so today we pootled down there to watch the practice and GP2 and 3. It poured on and off all day and the place was a mudbath. In fact, in many ways it was just like being at a festival, only the music was a bit repetitive. That is, the music of highly tuned engines - jeeeeeez! What immense sound! The fans are mostly middle aged men in proper gear, ie. waterproof trousers, anoraks and the obligatory Vodafone/Ferrari/MacLaren caps. They wear earpieces to listen to the commentary under their ear defenders. They are serious.

Anyway: this is a bit of GP2. We couldn't get seats for the F1 drivers so photos were difficult to shoot, but on Sunday, for the race, we will have our proper seats at Becketts, if we can find our way there. And this is taken with my new 300mm lens - an early birthday present from other half. Aren't we generous to each other! It's not a great photo, I know, but I'm getting used to the lens. And those cars move QUICK.

If you ever go to Silverstone on the first day, be prepared for a 2 hour exit queue through woods. Highly random.
