View of the battle

The view through the cross-shaped slits in the Battle Monument in Priory Park, Lewes. The giant helm, by Italian sculptor Enzo Plazzotta (1921-1981), was presented to the town by its MP Sir Tufton Beamish in 1964 on the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Lewes.

Personally, I think it's a damnably ugly sculpture as a whole, although close up its textures are intriguing.
