tempus fugit

Now you see us, now you don't

The afternoon heat was at a steady simmer when I took the dog for our basic 'circuit' to the coast and around, a distance of only a couple of miles but sufficiently varied to satisfy most canine needs and interests until there is the opportunity for a longer ramble.

The bracken is high now and conceals much of the terrain behind the cliff tops. Last time I came this way half a dozen Welsh black cattle were grazing the grassy areas. This time there was no sign of them and I assumed they'd been moved until I spotted several pairs of Mickey Mouse ears protruding from the fern. They'd found the coolest way to pass the day, and take refuge from the sun and the flies.

Info: these are Welsh Black cattle, an ancient native breed that predates the Romans. Hardy animals that can cope with uneven ground, they are used on traditional rough grazing terrain to keep down the vegetation and maintain the habitat without harming it. Cool cows!
