Progress

Out driving around Malahide Estuary last evening, it's a place where we used to spend a fair bit of time birdwatching back in the 80's. It's a great port of call for Winter waders, ducks, geese, including the occasional rarity.

The far side of the estuary is a favourite place for people to bring the kids to feed the swans. A walking trail runs right around the estuary and you can feel like you are out in the countryside. Hard to believe that the airport and the city are very close by.

And then the M1 motorway to Belfast happened, it was badly needed to replace the notorious N1. It cuts right across the end of the estuary. There was a concern that the birdlife, when flying would be a hazard to drivers. Measures were put in place to stop this happening.

Thankfully the estuary still retains it's charm.
