Klingons. On Screen.

Set. Mr Muscle. to. squirt.

Posted this picture 'cause Euan wouldn't let me post his version of the campest Captain Kirk ever. Spoilsport.

This was part of the Sc-Fi Summer event that is on-going at the Kennedy Space Center just now - an exhibition covering 40 years of all things Star Trek. The holiday up until now had been all about the kids; today was mum and dad's turn (as witnessed by the number of rolling eyes, moans at the time we were taking to go through the exhibits and attempts to disown parents when opportunities like the above popped up). Even the cheesy half hour interactive show (don't pick me, don't pick me...) didn't make us cringe us much as it would've a week ago. It seems we may being slowly assimilated...

The main disappointment was missing out on the tour around the NASA complex as we'd decided to sit in and watch the latest Transformer's movie in the iMax cinema, a strange experience in itself as there were less than fifty people in the place and you weren't allowed to leave during the 2 and a half hour movie due to a potential security issue. Missed the last bus by a few minutes and had to settle for a slightly weak attempt at competing with the theme parks in their 'Shuttle Launch Experience'.

There was so much modern history crammed into this visit elsewhere though it was hard to come away anything less than awe struck. Seeing some of the technology close up it's also incredulous to believe that someone would strap themselves on top of those big explosive metal tubes to be blasted off skywards. And watching our kids and their lack of enthusiasm as well being here as Atlantis is on its final ever Space Shuttle mission all added to the feeling that maybe it's the beginning of the end of an era for a generation of wannabe astronauts.

Like me.
