Birthdays on ICU are a little wierd. We spent most of the day in surgury watching a horse having it's jaw repaired. The op wasn't hugely sucessful, but hopefully the fracture is stabilised enoug to allow healing. If the mare can't eat however....the prognosis isn't great. The fracture couldn't be reduced proerly because the operation was very lengthy, and they pretty much ran out of time. Horses do not cope well with anaesthesia in dorsal recumbency (on their back), and the length of the operations have to be kept to an absolute minimum.

In the evening however, the team INSISTED on singing happy birthday to me around the cake that Mummy and Papa Mac had sent to me in the post!
