Small Copper

This weekend is the Big Butterfly Count. I therefore went out to recce three sites to decide where to go and once again to look for small coppers that I remember photographing last summer. A quick google on the UK Butterfy website revealed that the Scottish population is at a minimum just now as the first brood has passed and the second brood hasn't hatched yet. This was confirmed by looking back at the date of last year's photos and finding they were mid-August.

Nevertheless, I was still able to capture this rare sight of a small copper in mid-July.
