Buckley Hughes World

it's that bean time of year

So, we get veg delivered every fortnight which is great because it means that
a) we don't have to think about buying veg
b) we get things delivered that we wouldn't normally choose
c) we get local veg in season

This week we got a load of broad beans in the box. About once a year we attempt to make something tasty with them, usually give up and then donate the unwanted veg to an unsuspecting friend or neighbour. This year I got Jane Grigson's Vegetable book for Christmas, so I was determined to do something interesting, creative and new with them. So we read the whole chapter on broad beans and settled on her 'creamed beans' recipe.

I have to say it was the loveliest recipe I've ever made containing broad beans. But that could have had something to do with the ton of butter they were stewed in and the creme fraiche that was added later - the recipe called for double cream but I was getting a little concerned for our arteries!
