Meadow Brown (male)

With the 'Big Butterfly Count' taking place, it was only natural to concentrate on butterflies today. Although I have previously blipped a Meadow Brown, that was a common Lincolnshire beast. This is the genuine Scottish article - much rarer.

In fact I found two of them; one male, one female. This is the male meadow brown (Maniola jurtina) identified by the dark scent scales across its forewings.

The other dark line across the right wings is the shadow of a grass.

No doubt butterflies will feature again over the next few days.
