The Gazweasel Times

Fossil

Given the day is grey and gloomy, I decided to have a play with my new camera today. Using a tripod, small goose neck lamp and a brass Victorian magnifier, I managed to capture this close up of a fossilized fern. The leaves are about 9mm x 4mm in real life.

The fossil is possibly a Late Carboniferous Pariteris pseudogigantea which would mean it grew around 300 million years ago.

Given my love of photographing plants and flowers, I appreciate the irony.
