Sunbeams

Striped Green Grasshopper

Its Latin name is Stenobothrus lineatus. This is a youngster as its wings have not yet grown right down over the length of its body. So named because of the stripe on the forewing which is just visible. I never realised but grasshoppers only become active after they have warmed their bodies by sunbathing!

This specimen was in the long grass by the hedge on the way to the field called Boundary West where T and N were putting up an electric fence for the cows.
