This and that...

If you go down to the woods today

A cheap family day out was called for today so we jumped in the car and drove to Blairadam woods (near Kelty, Fife) for a bit of a wander and an explore.

It was sunny and reasonably warm and the girls were armed with their mini magnifying glasses for spotting mini-beasts, snacks, drinks and notebooks to do some drawings of their finds. I find they walk further/better/quicker if distracted... We managed to walk about 3 miles in all which isn't bad as they're only (almost) 6 and (almost) 4 and the Littlest Miss has particularly short legs lol

The woods are fairly standard stuff and we did find all sorts of beasties (including grasshoppers) and other fauna and flora. There are also a few other nice man made finds around including a large totem pole, some interesting brick work and collapsed buildings/bridges and also this slightly random engraving on an old brick wall. Unfortunately it was too large to fit the whole thing in one pic but it's a sort of Celtic design I suppose and the other end of it reads 'touch not the cat'. It's kinda cool but not sure who did it or anything...
