Loons to Epiphytes

We left our loon pond yesterday afternoon to visit friends further north in Maine. They are birders, and we set off on a birding expedition this morning to the Rangeley lakes area still further north. The birding was difficult, and I got no decent shots (one perched bald eagle, but much too distant for a proper blip)--so this was next best.

I've always been fascinated by epiphytes--plants which grow on other plants but draw their nutrients and moisture only from the air and from rain--Spanish moss is perhaps the best-known example.

After Rangeley we drove on, south and west to to join my brother and his wife in our ancestral region of Tamworth, New Hampshire--where there now is Wi-Fi (miraculously--otherwise I'd need to backblip tomorrow).
