Kath's Journal

Oh dear - note to self

Before you can take photographs from a boat you will need to learn how to row, steer and steady the boat!

A naff photograph but at least it shows that we were not the only people to face difficulties.

It is my sister's birthday so we went out for the day to Martin Mere. We went out into the reed beds in a boat but spent the first half hour or so spinning round in circles or pushing ourselves out of the reeds. I was worried that we would frighten the wildlife but most of it stayed at the side and stared at us. This was a humiliating experience. Even the butterflies seemed to turn to gawp. A large dragonfly circled us twice and then flew out in front. It led us back to the open water. :-)

We eventually managed to gain some control and made it back to base without having to blow the emergency whistle, but more practice is needed - much more.
