Sassal Masone
Another bit of wandering today. Out on the train to Ospizio Bernina, you pass the watershed on the way here, one side the water falls off to the Black Sea and one the other it goes to the Adriatic. I liked that.
We walked from the railway station along the White Lake to Sassal Masone. That was a really good walk and I was really looking forward to seeing the old stone buildings. Alas it looks a lot more like this (you can get a glimpse of the really old buildings off to the right), I'm struggling to see why they don't make a bit more of an effort.
From here there was a bit of an iffy walk down to Alp Grüm. A bit too steep and exposed in places for me, but it all passed off without any harm. Sitting in the restaurant (the Gerstensuppe gets a big recommendation here, it's a bit like Scotch Broth but with cream and bacon) we made the decision to take the train down to Poschiavo.
The train journey was great - it's down through tunnels and galleries, superb views down to the towns and lakes. Although this didn't impress two fellow travellers who played cards all the way down (and when they got to Poschiavo, they went straight to a pub and restarted their card game).
Poschiavo was really good too - some lovely old buildings and a super little garden. And of course the train journey back up the cliff was equally enjoyable.
