Mirabelles

These tiny plums are really delicious and this morning I've made a couple of tarts with them to put in the freezer for next week when we'll have family staying. They came from a tree in the next garden to ours which belongs to our first friends in the village when we came here 10 years ago. Ever since then they've been a wonderful source of fun, apéritifs, recipes and garden produce. Yesterday evening when we were having supper in the garden they asked Lo Jardinièr to pick all the mirabelles that were left on the top of the tree - being taller than most people around here has a lot of advantages! A. then gave me her recipe for the tart: fill a pastry case with the halved and stoned plums, pour over a mixture of crème fraiche, sugar and beaten egg and bake for about 40 minutes. They look good! We ate the ones in this bowl just as they are at lunchtime.
