Balloon Festival

Sunday afternoon we went to a balloon festival at a local airfield. It was a pretty big event. There were 100 balloons ready to go up!

As it turned out only somewhere around 50 actually went up as the wind absolutely died while they were going up. None of them went far, most landed in a field just beyond the event but the barn shaped on the right edge of this shot didn't make it that far and appeared to have landed in a tree behind the airfields hangar! Oh dear.

There were there next row of six fancy shaped ones in front of where we stood, they inflated them and then waited around for the wind to come back but it didn't, so they folded them back up and packed them away. They looked pretty cool sllouetted against the sunset as they waited there. It was pretty funny watching people trying to hold them still by pulling the ropes for all that time.

They mightn't have all got up but it was still an impressive sight. The kids loved it.
