Cambuslang Miners Memorial

This Memorial is quite close to my house. I was thinking about what I would blip tonight and on my way home from the gym I spotted the perfect subject. The Memorial is dedicated to the Cambuslang Miners and their families. it says on the plaque that the children of the miners would also labour with them in the mines.

The Memorial is also dedicated to Mick McGahey who was the leader of the Scottish Miners Union. Mick died in 1999 and is often described as 'A true working class hero' along side the likes of Clydeside leader Jimmy Reid. Mick fought for miners pay and conditions for most of his life, and lived in Cambuslang.
