Hilltop Sheep

I went to a road that gives a view of the Waimakariri Gorge above the bridge, hoping to see where last week's fire was, but it was not visible from there. Views of the river are almost impossible because of the wide borders of private land and the shelterbelts- huge hedges to protect farms from the gales that are funnelled down the gorge.

There is no "right to roam" here. Farmers do not like trespassers and for good reason. They can be held accountable for any accident that occurs on their land, even to trespassers.

The rough little road gave a different view of the mountains, however. The forward standing Rubicon Peak blocks out much of the range. This part is Castle Hill Peak in the south.

Next to me when I took this photo was a very tall and dense pine hedge. It had a strange look to it and I realised that all the needles had been blown to point inwards.
