Butcher, Baker

I don't understand how baking ever happened? I can see how ancient people developed ways to preserve things, to make food last through scarce times. But how did anyone "discover" that mixing this with that, and heating it for this long produced something that people would want to eat? Who was the first baker or cook? And what sort of weird accident with a fire led to someone realising meat tastes good heated up?
