Past Its Best

The hot weather still persists in Jacksonville and this afternoon we had rain, thunder and lightning for about an hour. The opportunities to get out and about are a little limited these days.

In the flat light after the storm, I decided to look around the backyard for something to photograph. I also had the idea of shooting at a fast aperture. Wide open on the Zeiss ZE is not as sharp as it could be but stop down to f/2 and we are in business.

My first subject was the leaves of a the mimosa tree and then I switched to the canna lily that was already past its best and the storm gave it even more of a bedraggled look.

It was a tough call to decide which to post. The canna lily just edged it.

It seems as if London is burning. I have a horrible feeling that it could be a foretaste of things to come in America if the gulf between rich and poor is encouraged to become even wider.

And no that doesn't make me some kind of Marxist, just someone who believes in a degree of fairness and common sense. The trouble is that some people in America do not think beyond their checking account.

Zeiss Planar T* ZE 1,4/50.
