Enterprising

J and K picked enough fat saskatoon berries for a pie on Sunday. In the absence of a suitable pie tin we made it in the big cast iron frying pan. That meant that we had to invite our neighbour over and eat lots of pie because we needed the fry pan to cook bacon and egg breakfast the next morning.

It's been two summers since K was at the cabin. By any standard, but especially hers, the weekend was a complete success. The weather provided a taste of everything: one warm sunny breezy day perfect for reading and relaxing on the deck; one warm overcast day perfect for picking berries and fishing; cool or even chilly nights brilliant with stars and aurora borealis and a meteorite or two; and the last day cool and rainy enough to warrant a fire in the old cookstove to take the chill off things while we ate our hot breakfast.
