1850 metres

Today's trip was to Sambuy, to mark our last day in the Alps. We ascended via a chairlift to 1850 metres. All simple but a bit nerve racking with a 3 year old to hold on to.

He was having a great time but did point out, about half way up, that his hand was hurting, probably due to me gripping on to it as tight as possible.
Up to the top and it was 8 degrees so a bit fresh.

We sought refuge in a refuge (well it seemed obvious) but this was a designer refuge with a wood fired hot tub, drop toilet with astonishing view, plasma TV and projector, all for hire. We had coffee and hot chocolate, in some fear of the bill, but all was good. It would be a great spot for a special birthday, in the snow, money providing... It's good to dream.

Out of the refuge, the sun came out, the cloud lifted and the brilliant view of the Alps opened up (a bit for a bit..!). Back down the hill for a go on the Luge - Son #1 declared it his, 'bestest day' so far.

We leave Lake Annecy behind tomorrow so I asked Son #1 what his Top Five activities had been:
1. Cycling - Free and great around the Lake
2. Chair Lift at Sambuy
3. Luge at Sambuy (both recent memories so may affect the decision!)
4. Gorges du Fier/Annecy
5. Swimming at the Municipal Swimming Area on Lake Annecy shore

So, there you go!

Shame to be leaving the stupendous views. I was talking to another Dad as the boys engaged in Tuesday Late Night Swimming and we both agreed, as we looked up towards the silhouette of La Tournette, that this holiday business is a good thing.

A good time to be out of the country?
