Chimpanzee

One of my colleagues told me a little while ago that apparantly in our building there is a corridor with lots of skulls and teeth in glass cases. Today I went to have a look and this is one of them, a chimpanzee. The note behind it read:

Incisors large and deep antero-posteriorly with diastema in front of upper canine. Edge to edge bit. Lower centrals smaller than laterals. Canines large and sexual.
Prmolars: upper three rooted, lower two rooted. Molars converge at back and decrease posteriorly. Upper molars have oblique ridge. Note square jaws, absence of chin and ape shelf.

Makes it clear that it's from the dentistry department, but why they study animal teeth I do not know... maybe it's just for fun :)

Btw if anyone knows a tip on how to get a good photo through glass without having your own reflection in it, I would very much like to know! My usual approach is taking in in a dark bit of shadow, so you can crop it and do not see the reflection, but that does not always work...
