Danksound's Musing

Weir are we?

This little weir is situated in Derbyshire beside an old Mill called Caudwell's Mill. The water is quick flowing as you can imagine to run the mill machinery. It is still in working order so people can visit and get an idea of what it was like in it's working days! We went for the interest, photos and cafe adjacent to it - surprise surprise!!! This picture of mine was more interesting than the visible part of the mill itself. They sell flour in the shop but it is not milled here. There have been mills on the River Derwent near the confluence of the River Wye at Rowsley for 600 years. Two derelict old mills (a corn and a saw mill) were scrapped and John Caudwell built the large flour mill in 1874.
