Antifaschistischer Schutzwall.

It's been 50 years since work began on building what the German Democratic Republic called the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart", partitioning East from West Berlin in a wall eighty-seven miles long.

Die Mauer quickly became a symbol of the differences between East and West, freedom and oppression, Capitalism and Communism; when The Wall began to fall in November 1989 it became an equally strong symbol of the demise of Communism, and the subsequent reunification of Germany under a year later.
