Declaration of Arbroath

This statue greets visitors as they enter Arbroath. The document was written in Latin and signed by those in power at the time, but it spoke for a Nation. the part most people know (made famous by an antipodean thespian) is written below:

"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Independent rule is important and people should decide what happens in their country to their people and culture, but could Scotland survive in the World today as an independent nation, economy and Army or would division weaken, and therefore lower out standing in the World?
