No Borders

I know Blip doesn't like Borders...

Anyway.

When I moved to Boston, there were two large branches of the major bookstores on Washington Street (the main drag) - Borders and Barnes & Noble. After some fairly aggressive competition between the two, B&N moved out in 2006. The space has been unoccupied ever since. Now Borders has gone broke and is closing down for good.

I hope we are not left with another empty shell of a building at Downtown Crossing, but I expect that's what will happen.

The recession has bitten hard in this part of town.
