The #woolwichwall. The riots a week ago left over 65 shops in Woolwich destroyed as looters hit the town centre. Five buildings were set ablaze, including the large Wetherspoons pub "The Great Harry," along with a police car on the opposite side of the town. Police were drastically outnumbered by the rioters, and by their own admission were unable to gain control of the area at any point that night. Fire services were unable to tackle the blazes as they came under the rioters' attack on approach.

One week on, The Great Harry is now boarded up and the #woolwichwall has been created. Following an unexplained media silence on the events in Woolwich that night, details are finally being reported on Sky News thanks to the committed campaign of local resident Danny Mercer (@mistermercer on twitter).

It is so inspiring to see local people showing such pride in their community - one message asks those responsible "what will you tell your children and grandchildren you were doing during the riots?"
