The Cheviots from Holy Island

Finally back home after nearly 4 weeks of travelling in England and the Netherlands - phew! It was a beautiful day here in North Northumberland so we drove the 30 minutes up to the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. I saw a film crew and a scattering of (not very scarey) Vikings as I started over the Causeway. Another campaign to stop the idiots who like to ignore the posted warning signs and Tide Tables all over the Island, usually accompanied by a poster of a 4 x 4 in about 3 feet of North Sea. The number being rescued by the RAF helicopter or the lifeboat is getting bigger every year, if they don't care about their family's lives, what about their total write-off on their car, which, obviously no insurance company will pay out!!??
Sorry, rant over. We went for a 3 hour walk today, all around the nature reserve and along the sea, such a stunningly beautiful island, with so much history over the past 1500 years - why on earth do people bother going to package holiday islands with this here on our doorstep? I took lots of shots, this is looking back at the mainland, the Cheviot Hills are the last part of the Pennine Chain. Northumberland has 5 times as many sheep as people and is breathtakingly beautiful. We also have 40 miles of golden sandy beaches. I have put 26 of my photos up on my Facebook page, to show people what they are missing! By the way - guess whose car was shown on BBC Look North this evening - driving onto the Causeway!
